Shooting Baltimore County Officer, Suspect Injured in Shootout 2025-03-15 A Baltimore County police officer and an alleged gunman were injured in a shootout in the Catonsville precinct parking lot during a shift change. The officer was taken to the hospital in guarded condition, while the suspect was in critical condition. Police Chief McCullough said the incident appeared to be premeditated, and the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave. The police department is looking to enhance security at its facilities. Crime Maryland House Advances Bill Allowing Incarcerated Individuals to Petition for Shorter Sentences 2025-03-15 The Maryland House of Delegates advanced a bill, the Second Look Act, that would allow certain incarcerated individuals who have served at least 20 years to petition a judge for a reduced sentence. Community Maryland Expands Early Intervention Services for Infants and Toddlers 2025-03-15 The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is expanding eligibility for the Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program (MITP) to include infants weighing less than 3.5 pounds. This move aims to provide early intervention services to more children in need, as research shows that nearly 50% of infants with birth weights between 2.5 to 3 pounds, who were not born with another qualifying medical condition, end up with a developmental delay or atypical development by age three. |
