Shooting Baltimore County Officer Shot in Precinct Parking Lot 2025-03-14 A Baltimore County police officer was shot and injured in a shootout with an armed suspect in the parking lot of the Wilkens Precinct in Catonsville, Maryland. The officer underwent surgery and is in guarded condition. The suspect, who has a limited criminal record, was also shot multiple times and is in critical but stable condition. Police Chief Robert McCullough said the shooting appeared to be premeditated and that the department will be enhancing security measures at the precinct. Sex Trafficking Baltimore Man Charged in Sex Trafficking, Armed Robberies at Elkridge Motel 2025-03-14 A Baltimore man named R. Bennett Jr. was charged with 47 counts of sex trafficking, prostitution, armed robbery, and other crimes that allegedly took place at an Elkridge, Maryland motel. Police say Bennett arranged prostitution dates for several adult female victims, assaulted them, and stole their money, sometimes at gunpoint. The victims have been referred to local organizations for support services. Legal Proceedings Adnan Syed Formally Sentenced to Time Served in Murder Case 2025-03-14 Adnan Syed, whose murder conviction was the subject of the popular true-crime podcast 'Serial', was formally sentenced to time served on Friday by a Maryland judge. Syed, who was 17 when his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee was killed in 1999, has maintained his innocence. The judge modified his sentence under a state law that provides a pathway to release for people convicted of crimes committed as minors. Syed will remain on five years of supervised probation. |
