Brandon Scott Re-Elected as Baltimore Mayor 2024-11-06Baltimore mayor Brandon Scott has been re-elected, becoming the first Baltimore mayor to win re-election since 2004. Scott defeated Republican candidate Shannon Wright, touting his impact in reducing crime, growing the economy, and investing in the city's youth communities. Scott received endorsements from several local leaders, unions, and organizations. Angela Alsobrooks Elected as Maryland's First Black Woman U.S. Senator 2024-11-06Angela Alsobrooks, the Prince George's County Executive, has been elected as the first Black woman to represent Maryland in the U.S. Senate. Alsobrooks defeated former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan in a competitive race that had national implications. Alsobrooks pledged to focus on issues important to Marylanders, from expanding economic opportunities to protecting reproductive rights. Olszewski and Elfreth Win Congressional Races in Maryland 2024-11-06Johnny Olszewski Jr., the two-term Democratic Baltimore County Executive, won his congressional bid to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger. State Sen. Sarah Elfreth, a Democrat, also defeated Republican Robert J. Steinberger in the race for U.S. Rep. John Sarbanes' congressional seat. The results maintain the current balance of power in Maryland's congressional delegation. |
