Mass Overdose Incident in West Baltimore Leaves 25 Hospitalized 2025-07-11Emergency crews responded to a level one mass casualty incident involving as many as 25 people experiencing overdose symptoms in Penn-North. Baltimore City fire and police officials said the city received an overdose call around 9:25 a.m. Thursday and that paramedics responded to the area of Pennsylvania and North avenues. As many as 25 people were hospitalized, officials told 11 News, with five in critical condition — and that number is likely to change as crews find additional suspected overdose cases in the area. Multiple medic units are in the area standing by to keep resources in the area. 'This is a level one mass casualty event,' said Baltimore City Fire Chief James Wallace. 'So, for us, regardless of the nature of the call, the amount of patients scripts how we respond to this. And we've done just that.' Authorities do not yet know the substance involved. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, Governor Wes Moore, and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller have all pledged their support and resources to assist the community. Authorities Search for Baltimore Man Accused of Assaulting Woman at Gunpoint 2025-07-11The United States Marshals Service has joined the search for R. Terry, a 54-year-old Baltimore man who is accused of assaulting a woman at gunpoint inside her home. The alleged domestic incident took place inside a home on Gwynn Falls Parkway in Northwest Baltimore back on June 21, 2024. The woman told investigators that Terry threw a roll of tape at her face and then retrieved a handgun, swinging it in her face and threatening to kill her while holding her down on the couch by her hair. The woman was able to call 911 but had to hang up and was unable to answer the return call. Terry eventually let her go but threatened to kill her if she contacted the police. Authorities have yet to track down Terry, whose criminal history dates back to the 1990s with a history of arrests for assault, felony drug possession, and several domestic violence protective orders. Baltimore Sees Historic Lows in Homicides, Bucking National Trend 2025-07-10Baltimore, once a poster child for crime-infested American cities, has seen substantial year-on-year reductions in homicides, with the current 2025 rate on track for a historic low. Through June, Baltimore has had 68 recorded homicides, the fewest in 50 years, said city mayor Brandon Scott. This represents a 22% drop in homicides compared to the same period last year, and a 19% reduction in nonfatal shootings. Juvenile homicide victims have also declined by an astonishing 71%. Mayor Scott credited the city's comprehensive, evidence-based public safety strategy implemented in partnership with residents. Other Black mayors across the country, such as Eric Adams in New York City, Karen Bass in Los Angeles, and Brandon Johnson in Chicago, have also overseen significant declines in violent crime in their cities, though their achievements have largely been ignored by mainstream media outlets. |
