Tanya C. moved from the Baltimore area to York County, Pennsylvania, a few years ago, seeking a fresh start after the death of her daughter. She found a quieter, more peaceful community in New Freedom, Pennsylvania, where she can see cows and horses from her balcony. Many other government employees, including police officers and firefighters, have also moved from the Baltimore area to York County, attracted by the lower cost of living and more tranquil lifestyle. However, York County is a Republican stronghold, and some Maryland Democrats have been organizing canvassing efforts there to try to influence the tight presidential election in the swing state of Pennsylvania.
