Federal Authorities Board Ship Linked to Baltimore Bridge Collapse 2024-09-21

Federal authorities boarded a vessel managed by the company whose other ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March and caused a span to collapse into the river below. The raid came several months after federal officials conducted a similar search on the Dali, the massive container ship that struck the Baltimore harbor bridge, killing six road construction workers and halting maritime traffic for weeks. The Justice Department said mechanical and electrical systems on the massive ship had been 'jury-rigged' and improperly maintained, culminating in the power outages and a cascade of other failures that left its pilots and crew helpless in the face of looming disaster.

24-Year-Old Man Killed in South Baltimore Shooting 2024-09-21

A 24-year-old man was shot and killed in south Baltimore on Saturday morning. Police officers heard gunshots coming from the 1100 block of Marshall Street and found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital but pronounced dead by medical personnel.

Yvonne Briley-Wilson Appointed as Acting Correctional Ombudsman in Maryland 2024-09-21

Yvonne Briley-Wilson was appointed by Gov. Wes Moore to serve as acting correctional ombudsman leading the new Office of Correctional Ombudsman. Briley-Wilson, an attorney and executive director, will be nominated during the next state legislative session for Senate confirmation. As acting ombudsman, Briley-Wilson is tasked with establishing practices and procedures 'to help minimize risks to the health, safety, and welfare of incarcerated individuals,' and advise incarcerated individuals, families and others about the rights of those incarcerated.
