158 Jurong East Street 24 Singapore 609558  65605062  65648278  yuhua_ps@moe.edu.sg  schools.moe.edu.sg/yuhuaps 31 March 2020 Dear Parents/Guardian, Home-Based Learning (HBL) Days & Staggered Dismissal Time Staggered Dismissal Time In light of the developing COVID-19 situation in Singapore, we have put in place strict precautionary measures over the past two months to keep our school a safe environment for our students, and to allow our students to continue learning. With the recent spike in imported cases and the tightening of nationwide safe distancing efforts, we are further enhancing precautionary measures by reducing transient congestion during school dismissal. Kindly refer to the table below for staggered dismissal time starting Thursday, 2 April 2020. Level Dismissal Time P1 and P2 1.20pm P3 and P4 1.25pm P5 and P6 1.30pm In addition, we have implemented safe distancing measures at the parents’ waiting area near the main gate. We seek your kind understanding and co-operation on this. Home-Based Learning (HBL) Days From April 2020, all MOE schools will implement one day of Home-Based Learning (HBL) a week. This will help us prepare for an extended period of HBL should the need arise, so that our students can continue with their learning. Our school will be conducting HBL on Wednesdays, starting from 1 Apr 2020 (Wed). In the event that the day of HBL falls on a public holiday, your child/ward will not need to make up for HBL on another day. Classroom lessons will still proceed as usual on the other days of the week. Your child/ward will be provided with instructions on how to access their HBL materials by his/her teachers. Kindly refer to the attached Annex 1. If your child/ward requires additional support for HBL such as access to digital devices or internet connection, please alert his/her form teacher who will be able to advise on alternative arrangements.

The learning activities will be designed to allow students to complete them independently. We encourage you to support your child/ward by providing a conducive environment at home. You could do this by:  Working out a daily schedule/routine with your child/ward and guiding your child in setting goals and scheduling tasks. For further tips on guiding your child/ward in setting goals, refer to the Resilience Boosters at https://go.gov.sg/selresforparents.  Establishing an agreement with your child on managing screen time. We will assign a maximum of 2 hours of online learning every day. For further tips and guides on reinforcing your child’s/ward’s cyber wellness, please refer to: https://ictconnection.moe.edu.sg/cyber-wellness/for-parents.  Encouraging your child/ward to maintain an optimistic and positive outlook while accepting the changes and emotions that he/she has had to face as part of going through HBL. On the day of HBL, please ensure that your child/ward stays at home and continues to observe good hygiene practices such as washing their hands frequently with soap. If he/she feels unwell, please seek medical attention promptly and inform his/her form teacher if he/she displays any fever or flu-like symptoms. Co-Curricular Activities and after school programme (ASP) will remain suspended for the rest of Term 2. External activities and those that involve mingling of students across schools – Learning Journeys, outdoor learning activities at the Outdoor Adventure Learning Centres and the National School Games – will also remain suspended for the rest of Term 2. The Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation will be cancelled. MOE is monitoring the situation closely and we will update you should there be any changes to the precautionary measures that we are implementing. We urge parents/guardian to rely on official sources of information and not to circulate any unconfirmed information. If you have any further queries, please contact 6560 5062 or email us at yuhua_ps@moe.edu.sg. Thank you very much. With warm regards, Mrs See Lai Kwan Principal

Annex 1 : One-Day of Home-based Learning a Week starting from Wednesday, 1 April 2020 1. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, schools have implemented a strict regime of precautionary measures to keep our students safe. To better support safe distancing, schools will progressively transit to a blended learning model, while continuing to remain open. 2. From Wed, 1 Apr, primary schools will introduce one day of week of HBL every Wednesday. This allows students and parents to be better prepared for more days of HBL, should the situation calls for it. 3. Every Wednesday, starting this week, students will learn from home and need not attend school. They are to complete online lessons and assignments at their own pace. All lessons and assignments planned for HBL can be found on the Singapore Learning Space (SLS). Students are to follow the instructions on SLS. Students have been taught in school to access their individual student account on SLS. 4. SLS is accessible through the Internet browsers on either Windows PC, Mac, iPad or Android tablets (with screen size larger than 7 inches for good user experience). SLS can be accessed from http://learning.moe.edu.sg. Alternatively, you and/or your child/ward may also access SLS via the link listed on the school website. 5. It is recommended that students carry out e-learning from home, based on the staggered timings stipulated below to avoid high internet traffic and congestion. Kindly refer to the HBL timetable for Wednesdays.  AM session: P1/2/3 – 8.00 am to 12.00 pm  PM session: P4/5/6 – 12.00 pm to 4.00 pm HBL Timetable P1 P2 P3 P4 P5 P6 08:00 EL MTL MA 12:00 EL MTL/ FMTL MA/ FMA 08:30 12:30 09:00 MTL MA SC 13:00 MTL MA/ FMA SC/ FSC 09:30 13:30 10:00 MA **MU/ART/PE EL 14:00 MA SC/ FSC EL/ FEL 10:30 14:30 11:00 **MU/ART/PE EL MTL 15:00 SC EL/ FEL MTL/ FMTL 11:30 15:30 *Students are advised to take 3 short breaks of 10 minutes in between subjects. ** For P1 & P2 Music/Art/PE, kindly refer to the subject assigned via SLS for that week. 6. In preparation for HBL, parents/guardians are advised to check that the computer at home is in working condition and has Internet access. Do ensure that your child/ward is able to log in to his/her SLS student account from home. Your child/ward has been advised on his/her SLS username and password by his/her form teacher(s).

7. Form teachers will issue a separate consent form to identified students who do not have computer or internet connection at home for them to report to the school computer labs on Wednesdays to carry out HBL. For those coming back to school on HBL days, parents/guardian will need to make transport arrangement on your own. There will be no school bus service on HBL days. More details will be provided on the consent forms for parents/guardian of these identified pupils. 8. There will be teachers in school to supervise these students and support other students at home who may have SLS and HBL-related queries. On HBL days, parents and students can seek assistance from the following: Technical Support Curriculum Matters SLS Helpdesk at hotline number 6702 6513 during Monday - Friday: 9.00 am - 9.00 pm Saturday: 9.00pm. – 3.00pm should your child/ward face any technical problems accessing his/her SLS account.
